This acoustic cutter was designed and built by me for a well known contemporary composer to use as part of a new work exploring decay. The idea was that alongside 30 single sided lathe cut records (with the composition split across multiple discs), members of the audience would be invited to change something using the cutter. Crafted from paper cones, plastic housing and modified grammophone needles the result is lofi and challenging but a fun project nonetheless showing that sound inscription can be a physical and accessible activity if the goal is not fidelity.
